Much too much time has gone by since writing here. Life just gets away with us sometime, and we always reserve the right to escape screen obligations.
We had a full and exciting summer, with more multi-day trips than ever, and more thunderstorms in the Apostles than ever. Our season ended too soon with increased pressure to pull out Amicus II in early October. The last two years have seen bruising NE gales in late October which did some serious damage to the Knife River marina--and one year, to our boat. So we pulled out without too many complaints. Sure enough, once again, the high water and high winds combined to bring us another few days of high excitement on Lake superior, but Amicus II was safely on land.
(Incidentally, we may or may not be at our regular lagoon this summer. Work needs to be done to make it usable again.)
Fall brought a delightful family/friend trip to the Sleeping Giant in mid-October. Yes, a true Lake Superior family, can't stand to leave the lake when we go on vacation!
Winter. It came hard in December, then let up by Christmas. We did some snowshoeing up the river gorges--which are currently closed to us, with the rivers running like spring. Just today the temperatures are dropping closer to the normal range, so we hope to be back on the rivers soon. Stay tuned!
